What is a Copper Nickel Flat Bar (90/10 & 70/30)?

These products have a rectangular section and are customary in structural and architectural applications. Copper nickel flat bars show brilliant resistance to fatigue and corrosion and can comfortably adapt to marine environments. These bars also possess natural control against biofouling.

Although a 70-30 composition has better properties, many buyers prefer a copper nickel 90/10 flat bar because it is relatively cheaper. Both grades contain small but indispensable amounts of iron and manganese to improve their metallurgical traits.

A copper nickel 70/30 flat bar also displays elevated resistance to seawater corrosion and management for extreme temperatures.

How does the electrical conductivity of a Copper Nickel Flat Bar (90/10 and 70/30) vary with temperature changes?

Electrical conductivity measures the capacity of a material to carry electric current. It stands at 4.6% IACS at 68°F for a Cu-Ni 70/30 flat bar. Here, IACS denotes the International Annealed Copper Standard, i.e., the percentage of conductivity relative to copper. The value is higher for 90/10 DIN 2.0872 flat bars: 9% IACS at the same temperature.

The relationship between electrical conductivity and temperature is inverse for metals. As the temperature rises, the ions vibrate more, leading to more resistance and reduced conductivity in Werkstoff 2.0882 flat bars.

What is the difference between CuNi 90-10 and 70 30 flat bar?

These components find widespread applications in saltwater valves, condensers, pump bodies, and internal parts. When comparing them, UNS C71500 flat bars or 70/30 have superior characteristics like greater strength and corrosion resistance. It is because of the higher amount of nickel (30%). These sturdy components have a tensile rating of 372 to 517 MPa.

On the other hand, ASTM B151 UNS C70600 flat bars or 90/10 contain only 10% nickel. They are less than ideal for managing stressful applications but are more cost-effective and popular. ASTM B151 UNS C70600 flat bars have a tensile strength of 303 to 414 MPa.

Another key difference lies in handling high-velocity seawater: 70-30 is better. Both options are capable amid chlorides, resisting crevice corrosion, stress cracking, and pitting.
